I missed the boat

Boy did I miss the boat on the design of my Halloween Owl.  Check out this Pinterest board from a lady who pinned my owl card from last week. . . .

.. .notice all the cute, cute Halloween themed owls there were. Man! Wish I would have seen those earlier.

Here's the link to her Pinterest Board which is dedicated just to cards and ideas for the owl punch.  Now how cool is that!  I'm putting this link on the blog so I'll have it for future reference the next time I hit a creative bump.

Happy Halloween Owl

Well this is not at all the way I wanted this card to turn out but I just ran out of time on Sunday - the deadline for getting the weekly letter out to the family.  First of all the paper was supposed to be candy corn but I couldn't find card stock and coordinating paper for the owl's vest.  The owl was supposed to be on a pumpkin but I couldn't find a die cut for one and didn't have any creativity for creating one.  So this funky looking sunburst was the best I could find.  Kind of looks like a mutated orange spider, huh?!

Oh well, at least I was able to get him to jiggle which was the whole intent.  Remember my pledge - a jiggly owl card for every major holiday this year.  Here's a reminder of the St Patty's Day and 4th of July cards which I have to say are much, much cuter.  I'll be sure to start alot earlier on the jiggly Thanksgiving owl card.  Now how am I going to make him look like a turkey??  :-)

Christmas in July

Goofing around on the internet while I'm having my morning coffee and stumbled on this card from this blog.  Oh my gosh! - I think I may have just found my Christmas theme for the holiday owl.  I just had to share.  How cute, huh?!

Hope you have a great Friday and weekend.  I'm hoping the weatherman is right about rain on Saturday.  That will make for a nice cozy day at Memory Lane for Betty's "Secretary" craft class.

Take care.

Happy 4th of July

Hope everyone had a nice day off and a HAPPY 4TH OF JULY !!!  And Mona, I hope you had a great time christening your new cabin!  We'll look forward to hearing all about next week at the shop.

Wow! Didn't intend to be away from this blog for over 2 1/2 months! But I must have needed the break. And now I feel ready to be back in the saddle. Plus I had a stash of cards that I've been making that I'm anxious to share with you.

I'll kick things off with the card I sent to the family last week.
Mona and Val will remember that I've pledged to do a whole year of holiday cards using my Stampin Up! owl punch.  I got inspired when I made this card for the family on St. Patty's day

I just loved the little "springy" things that Memory Lane has in stock to pop up the owl and make him jiggle. So I decided for each major holiday the owl will be dressed in themed paper and will sit on a springy shape that matches the theme -- hence the red, white and blue paper and the sparkly star for the 4th of July.

Well enough chatter for today. See you back here tomorrow. I've got lots of fun cards to share with you for the next couple of weeks.

P.S. Val - so good to see you Tuesday night at the shop!!! Thanks for joining me.  I hope the healing continues and that you get to feeling a little better each and every day.

Wellness

I think I'm finally back among the living.  Whew!  Between the hard road trip to California and the nasty, nasty, bug I brought home, I wondered if I was ever going to feel well again.  I actually spent about an hour in the craft room yesterday.  Far less than I originally intended but neglected house chores and beautiful spring weather pulled me away.  But I'm definitely looking forward to craft night tomorrow.  It feels like it's been WAY to long since my last Gal Pal fix.

P.S.  The family LOVED their St. Patty's day card.  A BIG thanks to Staci for suggesting the plastic springs that made the little owl jiggle.  It transformed the card and was a big hit!!

Give a Book a Hoot

Here's a sample of the Halloween bookmarks I made for the pre-school kids that came through the office yesterday.  Apparently there was one student that had a very, very bad nut allergy so they asked that we give non food items.  I thought since I work for an academic department that a bookmark would be an appropriate trinket.

I made 25 of the bookmarks and had them all stacked in cute plastic cup.  I used the owl punch and added some "googlie" eyes which made them fun.  Found some old punched ghost and bat elements from a card class long ago.  They sure were fun to work on.  Might have to do some again in a different theme to give to my parents for their students.
